FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How can I tell which way is up on my wallcovering?
If the pattern is a flower print the stem is always down and flowers
grow up. Some plain patterns have to be reversed but it is best to
read instructions on the roll.
What is "booking"?
This procedure/step allows the activation of the adhesive by folding
the wallpaper paste to paste.
It also lets the paper relax and return to its original width. It
is important to read your directions as booking time can range from
30 seconds to three minutes.
How can I get a bubble out without tearing the paper?
If smoothing the wallcovering won't work poke the bubble with a pin.
This must be done before the paste dries, work out the air through
the pinhole.
Why is wallcovering priced by the single roll when sold by the double
roll?
The wallcovering industry uses the metric system. If the roll were
to be split a drop/strip would be lost.
Can I wallpaper over wallpaper?
It is not recommended because the original paper can lift when the
new paper is applied. Also you may see the seams of the first wallcovering. If you do hang wallpaper over wallpaper prime and seal the wallcovering
then size over the old wallcovering.
What tools do I need?
When hanging wallcovering or border you will need scissors, trimming
knife, smoother, straight edge, sponge, tray and a work table.
How do I install borders?
Follow the same instructions for the wallcovering except soak the
border in cold water for 20 seconds. If going over wallcovering or
low lustre or semi-gloss paint use a vinyl to vinyl adhesive. Allowing
½ inch overlap at corners follow the ceiling line around the
room.
What products do I use to prepare damaged walls?
When preparing damaged walls you can use an interior spackle, primer/sealer
or a joint compound. Prime and seal as necessary before installing
new wallcovering.
What is lining paper used for?
Use lining paper when wallpapering over cement block, bad walls or
wood paneling. When hanging lining paper it should be hung horizontally
with premixed paste.
How would I hang on bad seams?
On texture paper, if you have a bad seam you can overlap two pieces
and cut through and make a new seam. This will allow for hiding the
seam.
